A map of stories about the ground under your feet

Ibidem is made by Ryonix Labs Inc. It is free, and reading it needs no account.

What it does

Ibidem pins true stories to the exact spot where they happened. Open the map and you see the places around you, each with a drawing of the building or square itself. Tap one and you get the story: what happened there, when, and where the account came from. Every story ends on something you can still see standing where you are.

There is one thing you can do to a story: press Tell someone. That is the only vote, and there is no way to vote a story down. Stories that people want to repeat rise; the rest sink quietly. A story nobody has voted for yet is always shown second in a place's deck, so new writing gets read.

How to use it

The desk, for writers

Writers publish through a separate site, desk.ibidem.app. It is the only part of Ibidem that needs an account. You sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and password, then choose a place on the map — or add one, with a drawing in the map's house style — and write the story.

What Google sign-in is used for. If you choose Google, we ask only for your name, email address and profile picture. We use them to create your writer account, to put your name on the stories you publish, and to email you about your own work. Nothing is used for advertising, and we request no access to your Gmail, Drive, Calendar or Contacts. You can ask us to delete the account at any time.

Where the stories come from

Each story carries a note of its source — an archive, a newspaper and date, an excavation report. Some record local tradition rather than settled fact, and say so. If you find something wrong, tell us and we will correct it or take it down.
